Isara Recycling Center (Nong Khai)

The Isara Recycling Center (IRC) was opened in 2011 and is located in Nong Khai, Thailand. The IRC is 100% not-for-profit and is intended to 1) help the environment and 2) raise funds for Isara Foundation. Items received are separated and then sold at larger Recycling Centers, with 100% of the proceeds being used to create more Isara charity projects.

Our Recycling Center is built on property loaned to us for a period of 6-12 months. The wooden structure was built for $400 and will be used until we are certain the Recycling Center can be self-sufficient.

Recyclables such as plastic, paper, and metal are either picked-up by our Isara truck and brought back to the IRC for separation or customers bring their items directly to the IRC. Isara volunteers often join in and help with the trash pick-ups and separation.

Isara is very careful not to infringe or negatively effect local families who collect recyclables from trash bins for a means of an income. All our customers and donors guarantee us that none of the items given to Isara would have been discarded into trash bins or given to families who collect trash to support themselves. All items we receive were intended to be sold for extra income but the shop owners decided to donate the items to Isara or sell them to us at a discounted rate.

Note: Although we invite everyone to donate their recyclable items, in order to be competitive with larger Recycling Centers in the area, Isara must sometimes purchase recyclables from businesses and families. Thai staff are paid a monthly salary, using funds from the sales of recyclables.
